Built shortly after the Norman Conquest, the castle is famous for its impressive circular keep with distinctive buttresses, rising high above the surrounding landscape. Visitors can explore the restored keep, learn about its Norman history, and discover interactive displays that bring medieval life to life. The castle also inspired Sir Walter Scott’s novel Ivanhoe, adding to its rich cultural heritage.
